BSG, Starbuck, Greek Gods and Jungian Psychology

I really love how BSG is using Jungian psychology with ancient Hellentic paganism to create a realistic update on the Ancient Greek mystery rites and myths. I am of course talking about Kara Thrace and Her Special Destiny. Did anyone on here realise that to Jung a mandala is a personal symbol of spiritual evolution and spiritual wholeness.

I expect Starbuck to be reborn, free of her psychology as an abused child and "frack-up", as either a hero/legend of Odyssian proportion or as some interpretation of an Olympian goddess. I've been seeing her as Artemis/Diana: twin sister to Apollo, virgin daughter of Zeuz, goddess of the Moon and the Hunt.

Annette, great assessment. As I watched her journey unfold I couldn't help but think of the homage to another great sci-fi space flight: that of Dave Bowman in 2001. Your analysis actually gives me more insight into Clarke's mindset, or at least I can dream. Dave is undeniably different after his Odyssey. wait a SEC!! You're onto something here!!!! :)

I never cease to be amazed by the amalgamation of respect for stories that have come with the effort to make new ones. Great discussion of one of my fave characters. I was so sad to watch her "slipping" until a friend reminded me she'd have to hit bottom to emerge a true hero.

Finally, is it me or does it completely SUCK to have to wait til 2008? I am new to this space, so surely this has been mentioned before. j

I think they've already been hinting a link between her and Aurora... too weird her being Apollo's sister. I read a very interesting theory about her literally becoming the Arrow of Apollo. I agree she will shed that 'frack up' mentality and evolve into the hero of this piece.
