I really like BSG, however this seasons final show made no since. How is it possible that Col. Tigh could be a cylon. He is to old. The cylons didn't come up with the new models until this war. Col. Tigh has been friends with the admiral since at least the first cylon war. Therefore the writers have messed up.

J. Banks, the writers did not mess up.

I also think it's got to be possible that Tigh is a Cylon, because he IS a Cylon. I've been re-watching the show from the mini-series onwards and I can so understand how all of these characters could be and are Cylons.

A writer doesn't need to have messed up, just because the story doesn't make sense for you. Slightly obsessive watching of this show, has made me pick out patterns in the story, and from reading RDM's interviews and press comments etc. I see there is method in the madness.

What is human and what is Cylon is beginning to blur even more. It's been going in that direction from day one. I guarantee you at the end of this series, what is human and what is Cylon is going to change....

Look for a short story called, "Men Without Bones", by Gerald Kersh. I did you one better, I found the story online at SciFi.com no less. http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/classics/classics_archive/kersh/ker...

I like to keep it in mind when watching this show. Read it, come back and comment again.

I think it is too early to tell if the writers messed up. They are not infallible & I've seen plenty of examples in time of writers overstepping their own ingenuity.

And yes, The audience is indeed the final arbiter in deciding if the story makes sense.

The jello aliens is a nice little story. But hardly a new idea.

It will depend on how the BG writers pull it off.

And yes, the viewers will be the "deciders."

I don't think the 'jello aliens' is a new idea... but considering Gerald Kersh wrote it in the 40s or 50s or thereabouts, is probably more original that later iterations on the same theme.

That said, I have enough faith in RDM and Eick to pull this one off. They needn't have done a J. Michael Straczynski to have the whole story actually make sense....

"They needn't have done a J. Michael Straczynski to have the whole story actually make sense...."

You read my mind exactly. We don't disagree really, except that I'm more skeptical about whether the writers for BG can pull all of this into a plausible idea. When they started singing All Along the Watchtower at the end of the last show, I was a little put off. I tampered with my suspension of disbelief. I'm willing to bet they dodge the full implications of that. Or, we have a story line that involves either Jimi Hendrix or Bob Dylan...

I don't know if Shakespeare could write well enough to weave those guys into a modern space opera. I hope I'm wrong.

Internal consistency is pretty tough. Especially when you swing for the fences.

I disagree here that the hints were left throughout the series. If you re-read Ron Moore's Post Gazette interview, Mr. Moore specifically says that he came up with the idea of those four characters being Cylons this season. I believe this, much like the return on Roslin's cancer at the end of the season were ideas that have been more sudden inspiration than a deliberate attempt to build to this moment from the beginning.
The writers will have a difficult time building believable backstories to some of this, particularly for Tigh since his character and history has been so well revealed in past episodes. I think we are going to see some serious continuity issues, if not downright errors in the backstories. It's got to be unavoidable. That's when you should go back and rewatch the episodes. Meanwhile, I suspect there are more than a few writers on staff cursing their boss about now for the problems he managed to dump on their desks.

For me, the cliff hanger isn't the unresolved story lines at the end of season 3, but its how they are going to build back stories for all of this. And yeah Cylon/Tigh is gonna be tuff to 'splain.

See how I can agree with both of you?

I'm so conflicted.

I agree -- the others, I could see, but not Tigh. Of course, they had him in that torture prison long enough that they could have replaced him with a doppleganger. No reason to think he had to always be a Cylon just because we have not seen any examples of "new" versions so far.

As for the music, they are getting closer to Earth. Radio travels through space. The song is being picked up by the ship and relayed through the walls to the Cylons inside it. No great mystery there. (Sure beats the alternative - that they are hearing Hitler's speech, the single "loudest" radio broadcast ever from Earth.)
