What 22 episodes could mean for BSG

Syfy Portal has some interesting thoughts on what the number of episodes for season four could mean for Battlestar Galactica.

Usually getting additional episodes in a season is a good thing for a television series. But if SciFi Channel opts to increase its fourth season order of "Battlestar Galactica" from 13 episodes to 22, it could very well mean the end of the line for that channel's signature series.
A source close to the network tells SyFy Portal that if an additional nine episodes are ordered, it will be SciFi Channel's way of telling executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick to use those additional episodes to wrap it up.

Obviously this all speculation at this moment as there has been no official announcement but my first thought when I found out that it would be 22 episodes instead of 13 was "OMG, they're ending BSG!"

I would prefer to see two seasons of 12/13 episodes each if they are going to wrap BSG up rather than one season with 22 episodes. This would give the writers more time to tie up all the loose ends.

There is an updated article by the same author claiming that he was set straight by some folks at SciFi and Battlestar Galactica production that his suppositions were in fact quite wrong. In fact there is mention of a direct to DVD "telemovie" being considered to flesh out the story between seasons similiar to what SciFi did with the webisodes this past summer.

I think you could do that many more shows, plus another five seasons. Well, I guess, maybe they would be spinoffs like the twenty Star Trek spinoffs, MOST of which I was a very avid fan. Except for Deep Space Nine! It wasn't that true to the series since we weren't on a ship discovering new worlds. Will we still be in this club if they spinoff from the main show, or will all you in this club be mad at them? Just curious.

How many episodes are we for this season??? I am lost, but I know I see them "taping" on my DVR. YES, I still say tape! Old habits are hard to break. Does that date me pretty well? LOL.
